They even went as far as making a sequel to ‘Hangar 18’. The songs are uninspired and often sound like rehashes of better songs from years past. It sounds to me like a band that lost its way. But for me, this album is my second least favorite of Megadeth’s catalogue. I know what you’re thinking, “We’re at the bottom of the list and still no Risk?” Don’t worry, it’s coming. The World Needs A Hero, released May 15, 2001 So, even though it is considered a classic and I know I am being sacrilegious, I have to stay true to myself and place this one at the bottom of my list. I’ve listened to Megadeth since the 80s and this is still the album I reach for the least. And for me, I’ve just never been able to get into these that much. But I also think the songwriting just wasn’t there yet.įor me, a great album has nothing to do with how heavy, thrashy, punk or complex it is (this album is all those things), its just about the songs themselves. It could be the bad production, which was due mostly to the band blowing all their production dollars on drugs. But for some reason I just don’t go back to this album too often. It is a classic, simply for being one of the first thrash metal records and it does include some great tunes like “Looking Down the Cross”, “Mechanix” and and the title track.

I know this is their debut and is a cornerstone of thrash metal. OK, so right out of the gate I am probably going to piss off a lot of Megadeth fans. Killing Is My Business… and Business Is Good! Released June 12, 1985
